#AAAERNO: The New Gateway to Reno-Tahoe

This guest post comes to you from the Marketing and Public Affairs team at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, our conference host for the 85th AAAE Annual Conference & Exposition (#AAAERNO), to be held May 19-22, 2013 in Reno, Nevada!  Our gracious hosts, Conference Committee Chair, members and the AAAE Staff have put together another outstanding agenda for this year’s conference.  We hope you will join us for our Over the Top adventure in Reno!

The Reno-TahoeAirport has never looked better. We’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings back in 1929. The recent completion of our latest and most expansive remodel, dubbed the Gateway Project, creates a new “front door” to the region and places Reno-Tahoe among the very best designed airports of its size in the nation. We’re proud and excited to share a few highlights of this dramatic transformation with you.

The Airport now reflects its spectacular Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe setting–you’ll notice building elementsRNO Bag and finishes throughout evoke an alpine-look and feel. Our new second floor expansion is truly the centerpiece of the Gateway Project. This post-security, 21,000 square foot addition features 18-foot ceilings and windows looking out over the tarmac. Passengers can now dine with a panoramic view of arriving and departing aircraft against a desert mountain backdrop. From outdoor clothing, to high tech electronic items, customers will also find a wider selection of stores and products when shopping RNO’s new retailers, including Brighton Collectibles, In Motion, CNBC, the High Mountain Market and No Boundaries. All bring a fresh contemporary mix of merchandise to our customers. Be sure too, to stop by the new DepARTuresArtGallery where we’ll be featuring the Wild Horses: Spirit of the West exhibit through July. From the menu, to the view, to the shopping, all will provide a memorable beginning and end to any trip.

Major changes extend downstairs as well. The most advanced airport security screening technology in the Western United States is making its debut at RNO.

The two upstairs security checkpoints have been combined into one, large, state-of-the-art security checkpoint on the first floor. The “Checkpoint of the Future” opened March 21, 2013 and is streamlining one of the more stressful aspects of air travel. Accommodating a significantly higher volume of passenger traffic, RNO can move 1,300 passengers through the security queue in only 10 minutes.

Approximately 75,000 square feet of existing Baggage Claim and Lobby space inside the terminal RNO Mountain Housebuilding has also been upgraded. Our new first floor restaurant, the Mountain House Diner, offers local flavors that are prepared right before customer’s eyes.  Local beer and wines are also served to help provide a taste of Reno-Tahoe. Our ticketing area has been redone with sleek stone counter surfaces, new floor tiles and decorative rock applied to each of the columns, giving the entire terminal that mountain-lodge feel. Baggage Claim even sports a blue tile “stream” meandering through the area complete with silver trout!

The Gateway to the 85th Annual AAAE Conference at Reno-Tahoe is now open. We can’t wait for you to land!
